GMPR Gumbo of Black Forest MH, owned originally by Delery Guillory as well. Gumbo was a son of AFC Twist and Shout and could easily have run field trials as his father did. Gumbo finished his APLA and AKC titles by the age of 2 and went on to win many dozens of upland hunting competitions. Gumbo was one of the first APLA titled dogs to produce dogs that could not only point well but compete at the highest levels in all the conventional retriever games, including field trials. He has produced well over 15 GMPR’s, MH’s and multiple qualified all-age field trial dogs. Gumbo has arguably raised the standard another notch in terms of what pointing Labs could be expected to do and to produce. Few dogs, if any have so single handedly changed the face of pointing Lab expectations.
Gumbo has an unbelievable 75 field trial champions in his 6-generation pedigree. Gumbo earned his Master Pointing Retriever at just 14 months old. He had 4 titles before turning 2 years old.
Gumbo’s accomplishments include October 1994 APLA hunting trial winner, 1995 Rocky Mountain Upland Championship Jr. Runner up, Valhalla Hunt Club Jr Champion, 3rd place Colorado State Pheasant Championship (pointing division). Qualified for A.K.C. Master Nationals being second youngest dog in the country to do so. 1996, 3rd in the Colorado Open Senior State Point, Valhalla Challenge Hunt Runner Up, APLA Spring Hunting Trial Champion, 3rd place One Box Quail Hunt, 1997 Spring runner up APLA Hunt Trial, 3rd place Rocky Mountain Upland Championship, 1998 3rd place One Box Quail Hunt.
Gumbo is a 75 pound handsome black Labrador Retriever. He has a natural stylish point that is followed by a true love for the water. He is a very intelligent hunter, with outstanding marking ability.
Gumbo has produced some of the best Pointing Labradors in the country, such as High Sierra Mae.
